Cold weather and auto problems

By Vic Hurlstorm | December 13, 2009

There are a lot of changes as we go from summer into winter.  Obviously the weather changes.  But did you know the change in weather also affects your car?  It seems that there are more problems in the winter with cars.Your car would have a great chance of breaking down if you live in a city with a harsh weather. We would be discussing some reasons as to why cars are affected by the weather.

In my Vista auto repair service the biggest cold weather problem are dead batteries. The reason being that when the weather is cold your battery is more overworked. And because of that it runs a little harder.Your headlights are used more because the daylight is shorter in winter time. And the heater also takes more energy from the battery as compared to an aircon. So to prevent battery problems you must always look at your batteries if they are in good condition before going out in harsh weather.

During a cold weather frozen fuel lines is another prevalent auto problem.  This isn’t a big auto problem for my Oceanside auto repair service.  But this is a headache for car owners in cities with very cold weather.  What happens is if you let your car run low on fuel condensation forms. And if that condensation freezes it can stop the fuel from flowing. So to prevent it from happening then you must not let your car run low on fuel.

Tire pressure would be another one of those cold weather related auto problems.Cold weather can make tires lose their pressure. This would be bad because it can hasten the rate of making the tires go bald.Bald tires can be fatal on icy roads. So this problem is a serious one because it can be fatal. Make sure to always check your tire pressure.

So those are some of the most common auto problems during cold season.  If you do those tips you can avoid some of them. And you do not want to encounter those problems especially during cold season.
